Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at Mangotsfield School

Mangotsfield School has four key values, and our vision is for every student to exhibit our core values of love learning, challenge, respect and community. However within that we apply these values to everything that we do.

Love Learning

As a school we provide multiple opportunities to learn about our diversity as a community. We hold termly events that promote  inclusion and offer opportunities to allow our students to further develop their understanding of our different backgrounds and beliefs. We do this through our week long celebrations of Black History, Culture Week and Pride as well as supporting our students to raise awareness of Anti bullying, Mental Health weeks. As well as other opportunities to learn more about each other through our whole school reading programme, our subject curriculums and through our PSHE programme which is delivered in mentor groups.

Respect

Our students show respect for themselves, their school and their wider community. This value underpins our daily routines at Mangotsfield School. So as a school, when we provide learning opportunities to further understand each other's identity and backgrounds we expect all of our students to be respectful of each other and each other’s differences.

Challenge

We will not tolerate discrimination of any kind and so we will challenge our young people should we witness it or hear it. Likewise if there are incidents that need to be challenged we will sanction were appropriate but also support the students by giving them the opportunity to take part in scripted anti-discrimination intervention sessions that aims to educate them about their actions and the impact it could have on others in their community.

Community

Our school community is increasingly made up of a diverse range of students from widely varied backgrounds and experiences. Our diversity is something we celebrate and promote, as it is one of our greatest strengths as a school. We do this not only through whole school events such as Black History Month, Culture Week and Pride but also through other areas of the curriculum. We support new international members of our community by having an EAL coordinator and student language ambassadors. Likewise we facilitate a LGBTQ+ group that meets regularly to support our student body. These are just two examples of many opportunities we want to create to further support our community.
